Volunteer Tomato Plants

Volunteer Tomato PlantsJune 25, 2010
We've had a fair amount of warm days followed by rain in the afternoon and evenings mixed with rainy days.  The combination has seen weeds sprout up on the garden paths so they are getting to the point of needed to be cleared again.  A couple of days ago I noticed two volunteer tomato plants on one of the paths and there is another one in the first raised bed.

Road Daylily in Bloom

Road DaylilyJune 24, 2010
The large clump of road daylilies are in bloom, waving gracefully in the breeze.  These are a common daylily here quite often found growing wild in ditches and along farm fences.  As such they tend to be fairly common daylilies in many home gardens.  Most daylilies are rather problem free, low maintenance garden plants that naturalize easily.  The road daylily is perhaps

Burlesque Daylilies

Burlesque DayliliesJune 24, 2010
The Burlesque daylilies are in full bloom now putting on a lovely show.   They are in with the Stella d'Or daylilies and their numbers have increased over the last couple of years.  The Stella d'Or daylilies were fewer this year with only a couple appearing.  I don't know if they have hybridized with the Burlesque or this just wasn't a good year for them.

YES, these products are CHEAP …………..but,

I know that is the REASON that some of you are NOT SWITCHING YET!

I SAVE hundreds of dollars each year by using these products, plus I am keeping the chemicals out of my home and helping our planet!

I wrote this post because I know so many of you are on top of the fence debating to switch and I wanted to educate you on how much you will be saving by switching brands. With the tough economy right now, I know people are looking for ways their family can save money and I want to help make a difference!  Plus, these products are safer for your family too!!!

Plant Purchase from Richters Herbs

I looked high and low for horseradish for the garden unsuccessfully at all the local nurseries.  I even tried the local grocery stores for horseradish root in the produce section hoping I could plant it.  I had had success a few years ago with a piece of horseradish root that grew in the house for awhile.  A kind soul on one of the groups I followed suggested I check out Richters.  Richters Herbs

First of the Zucchini and Tiny Tim Tomatoes

Things are progressing nicely in the garden.  I am still planting but that is normal for the square foot garden method.  I have a lot more vegetables and herbs planted in containers this year.  This does seem to be the year of dealing with various insects and their damage but with the wild rabbits mysteriously absent there is no large scale damage so far.

I only have one zucchini plant this

Earwig Damage on Parsley

Earwigs (Forficula auricularia) are a common sight in many gardens.  They are attracted to damp locations so can be found under plants, in mulch and anywhere else damp like decaying vegetable matter.  Earwings are more of a nuisance indoors.  Despite their appearance earwigs aren't harmful to humans.  There is the old wives' tale that earwigs get into your ears when you are sleeping and while it

Bedroom for your little baby girl !

Having a baby is probably the most wonderful news for the parents, and it comes with a lot of preparation and anticipation. I have some wonderful ideas for parents who would love to do up a room for their baby. Because the design and color of the room would be soo vastly different for a baby girl or boy, I am taking it in different posts.

In this post I bring to you some beautiful ways to do up the room. I have done a post before..check it here; here I am showing some designs for a baby GIRL :D They are so precious the little ones that any amount of trouble is still little compared to the joy they bring.

Design in pretty pink with flowers.

What more could be more girlie than pink and pretty flowers. This is so beautiful with butterfly and flowers and lovely shades of pink to it. Go all out and pick up the favourite bits of fabric and design your own room with a little inspiration for this.

Break the monotony with brown and green.

Since pink is a choice by default for all little girl's room. How about using some more colors for a different look. This design is just that with the brown color on furniture, the brown butterfly print shows up beautifully. The green is so refreshing . In all a beautiful way to do up a room for a little cutie.

Pale green with pink and white

How pretty can it get? Pale green to offset white and pink, and a dash of mellow yellow! The design is simple and pretty as it should be, for a little baby. Pink and green is used in various accents too. I love how the lamp shade has been customized. A great way to do up your own.

Too much pink ?

Pink can be a little too much, s how about ivory? or the palest shade of pink possible. This design is fun and cute and pretty and yet not too much of pink. The color red is dominant with a combination of green and blue. love the ruffles and the flowers on the wall.

A hint of Pink ?

Okay we might not like too much of pink maybe but a little hint of pink is still beautiful. This might be just the design for you. Its pretty and not too cluttered yet with the retro touch of circles and cute lamp, not to miss the adorable chair, this design does beg consideration. Love the almost zen affect in it.

Sheer purple with brown.

This might not be a conventional color combination for decorating a baby girl's room but beautiful it is. Purple and brown is a good combination for any area and here the detailing is such that it makes for a very attractive design. Love the itty bitty chandelier there, perfect for a little princess.

Having posted on ways to do up your little princess room I have to do another for the apple of your eye too; one for the little blue eyed boys :) Watch out for it.

My Powder Room Makeover

bathroom makeover

That was a before and after picture of my downstairs powder room.   I decorated this bathroom for CHEAP!!!

I not totally done with it, but I am happy for now.

2010 06 02_4651

One of the things that I still want to do is to add molding around the mirror.  Do you think that I should go white or black???

2010 06 02_4652

I guess that I will start off with  my curtain and rod.

2010 06 02_4653

I actually made this curtain with fabric that I already had……FREE!  The rod was brand new from the Goodwill for $5.  (It is originally from Target.)

2010 06 02_4654

Here is a better look.

 2010 06 02_4655

I got this holdback on Clearance from Wal-Mart for like $7 (and it came in a pack of 2, so I get to use another on some where else.)

 2010 06 17_5156

These rings were a little more than I wanted to spend….they were $10 from Linens n Things.  I really wanted the big rings!

 2010 06 17_5157

This wall clock was only 5 bucks from a garage sale.

2010 06 02_4656 I got these flowers for $3- GS.

2010 06 02_4657

Because we save some much on decorating our house by finding EVERYTHING from garage sales, over the winter, we splurged and  got granite in here and the kitchen.  I had to say that I am loving it.

2010 06 02_4658

This artwork was only $3 from a GS.

 2010 06 02_4659

I bought this tot stool from a GS for $2 and I painted the top black.  (It was a light oak color.)

2010 06 02_4660

We bought all of our hardware on ebay for half price.  They were under $2 each!

 2010 06 02_4661 2010 06 02_4662

I bought this mirror for 1 dollar!!!!  Where you ask?  A Garage Sale of course!!!

2010 06 02_4670

2010 06 02_4663

I accessories are from Aldi special purchase.  Once a year, they had great bathroom deals.  I got a light fixture, towel ring,  towel bar,  tp holder and towel hook for $40.  I also used the kit here.

2010 06 02_4664

Here is a picture of the tp holder, nice huh?

 2010 06 02_4665

I got that lamp for $3.

2010 06 02_4666

This soap dispenser was from the Goodwill for like $3.

 2010 06 02_4667 2010 06 02_4668

This is the light that came with the house, but I think that I will be changing it soon.

 2010 06 02_4669

Here is the before.

100_8379

Here is the after.  Oh yeah, before I forget, I  My husband painted this room Capilano Bridge from Benjamin Moore.

2010 06 02_4653

I hope that you like it.  You don’t have to spend a lot of money to decorate.
